Companionship. Connection. A New Beginning.
Operation: Home Together is a Serenity Path Network initiative developed in partnership with Burlington Animal Services to connect eligible SPN veteran participants with an animal companion.
Launching in 2027, the initiative is designed to create meaningful companionship while supporting veterans as they transition toward greater stability, independence, and community connection.
🐾 A COMPANION FOR THE JOURNEY HOME
For many veterans, having a companion can provide a meaningful sense of connection and responsibility during a period of transition.
Through Operation: Home Together, SPN and Burlington Animal Services are working together to create an opportunity for eligible veteran participants to welcome an appropriate animal companion into their lives.
This initiative brings together two important missions:
Supporting Veterans.
Helping veterans build stability and independence through SPN's Veterans Path to Independence program.
Supporting Animals.
Helping animals in need of loving, responsible homes find a compatible companion and family.

HOW OPERATION: HOME TOGETHER WORKS
Operation: Home Together is being developed as a collaborative partnership between Serenity Path Network and Burlington Animal Services.
The initiative will focus on responsible, appropriate matches between eligible veteran participants and available animal companions.
1. Veteran Participant
Eligible SPN veteran participants can express interest in participating in the initiative.
2. Participant Assessment
SPN will work with the participant to determine whether an animal companion is appropriate for their current circumstances, housing situation, and ability to provide responsible care.
3. Animal Matching
Burlington Animal Services will assist with identifying animals that may be appropriate companions based on compatibility and availability.
4. Companion Placement
When an appropriate match is identified and program requirements are met, the veteran participant may welcome their new companion into their home.
5. Ongoing Responsibility
Participants will be expected to provide responsible care for their animal companion and follow applicable SPN housing requirements and animal-care expectations.
WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?
Operation: Home Together is being developed specifically for eligible veteran participants in Serenity Path Network's Veterans Path to Independence program.
Participants must meet applicable SPN program and housing requirements.
Because every veteran and every animal has different needs, participation and animal matching will be determined individually.
Program eligibility, requirements, and participation details will be announced as the 2027 launch approaches.
THE POWER OF COMPANIONSHIP
Operation: Home Together recognizes that the transition to independent living involves more than finding a place to live.
For some veterans, an animal companion can become an important part of their daily routine and home environment.
A companion can provide opportunities for:

Operation: Home Together is not simply about placing an animal in a home.
It's about creating the right match between a veteran and a companion.
OUR PARTNERSHIP
SERENITY PATH NETWORK
SPN provides transitional and independent living support for individuals working toward greater stability and independence.
Through the Veterans Path to Independence (VPTI) + Veterans In Justice Path To Independence (VIJPTI) programs, SPN works to help veteran participants establish a foundation for independent living.
BURLINGTON ANIMAL SERVICES
Burlington Animal Services brings animal-care expertise and assists with the animal side of the partnership, including identifying potential companion animals and supporting responsible placement.
Together, we're creating a bridge between veterans seeking companionship and animals seeking a home.
RESPONSIBLE COMPANIONSHIP
Operation: Home Together will emphasize responsible animal ownership.
Participants will be expected to understand and accept the responsibilities that come with caring for an animal, including:
- Providing appropriate food and water
- Maintaining a safe living environment
- Providing appropriate veterinary care
- Following applicable vaccination requirements
- Maintaining appropriate identification
- Providing daily care and supervision
- Following SPN housing policies
- Following applicable Burlington Animal Services requirements
- Meeting any applicable local animal regulations
Animal placement will be based on availability, compatibility, housing requirements, and program criteria.
